Before measuring your cabinets, it will be useful to sketch your kitchen, clearly showing each cabinet opening. Number each opening, starting with the upper left door and moving across, then the lower left door, again moving across, and finally the drawer fronts, also starting on the left (refer to Figure 1 for an example). Your sketch will allow you both to keep track of each cabinet's measurements and to easily match each custom door and drawer front with the correct opening when you are ready to install.
Other useful information to include in your sketch is the location of any doorways. Also, if a drawer opens into a doorway, note the thickness of any moulding surrounding the doorway; this will ensure that the drawer front is narrow enough to clear the door moulding. If you intend to hang a valance over the sink, note the distance between the upper cabinets on either side of the sink. Finally, measure the distance between the top of the opening on your upper cabinets and the ceiling (or the bottom of the bulkhead, if one is present) to determine whether there is enough room for ceiling moulding. Also indicate whether the hinges are located on the left or right side of each door.
We strongly recommend that you not use your existing hinges. Using Kitchen Door Depot's hinges with our accompanying reface plates makes installation of both framed and frameless cabinets much easier.
Before ordering, you will have to decide what type of hinges to install, because door measurements will vary according to the type of hinges selected.
Please note that door and drawer front sizes on the order form must be in increments of 1/8" or larger. Please do not submit them in increments of 1/16".
A) FRAMELESS CABINETS (i.e. no Frame on front of cabinet)
Use the measurements of your existing doors and drawer fronts. Remember, only concealed hinges can be used with frameless cabinets.
B) FRAMED CABINETS (i.e. with frame on front of cabinet)
For each door, measure the width of the cabinet opening (as shown in Figure 2), and choose the appropriate formula below, depending on the hinge type selected. For framed cabinets, it is important that you measure the cabinet opening and not existing doors or drawer fronts.
The opening height of a cabinet is determined by measuring from the top of the cabinet opening to the bottom of the cabinet (see Figure 2). This will ensure that you cover the bottom part of the cabinet frame.
Determining Door Ordering Sizes: Framed Cabinets.
Please note that door and drawer front sizes on the order form must be in increments of 1/8" or larger. Please do not submit them in increments of 1/16".
To determine your custom door width:
For cabinet openings under 20 3/4" wide, add 1 1/4" to the opening width.
If the opening width is more than 20 3/4", add 1" to the opening width, and then divide by 2 to get the width of each of the two doors for the opening. (If the result is in sixteenths, round down to the nearest 1/8".)
The maximum door width that can be ordered is 22".
To determine your custom door height:
Add 1/2" or less to the opening height, depending on the door's clearance of the moulding above the door. (See Figure 2 and measuring instructions for opening height.)
Door Measuring Examples: Concealed Hinges.
Upper or lower door: If ordering European oak bar-style doors with concealed hinges, please indicate the upper and lower door measurements in the appropriate section of the order form.
Hinge location: Indicate hinge location (i.e. left or right side of door) on your sketch, and insert L or R in the location columns on the order form. Remember, indicating the hinge location is only necessary when ordering concealed hinges, because these doors are pre-drilled at your request.

To determine custom door width:
For cabinet openings under 21 1/4" wide, add 3/4" to the opening width.
If the opening width is more than 21 1/4", add 3/4" to the opening width, and then divide by two to get the width of each of the two doors for the opening. (If the result is in sixteenths, round down to the nearest 1/8".)
To determine custom door height:
Add 1/2" or less to the opening height, depending on the door's clearance of the moulding above the door. (See Figure 2 and measuring instructions for opening height.)
Door Measuring Examples: Exposed Hinges
Glass Doors: If a frame for glass or mullion bars is required, clearly indicate your request on the order form in the appropriate box ("Frame & Mullion Doors") and if Mullion Bars. Please note, glass frames for laminated panel doors come in "frame-and-panel style" and are not available for European-style doors. The glass is to be supplied by the customer. Mullion bars are only available with PVC and MDF paintable doors.
We strongly recommend that you not use your existing hinges. Using Cabinet Door Depot's hinges with our accompanying reface plates makes installation of both framed and frameless cabinets much easier.
Determining drawer front ordering sizes:
Note: Drawer fronts cannot exceed 40" in width.
Frameless drawer fronts: Use the width and height of your existing drawer fronts.
Framed drawer fronts: Use the width of the door directly below the relevant drawer front, and use the height of the drawer front itself. If there is no door below the drawer front, use the width of the drawer front. If you would like one long drawer front to extend over the width of two doors (as is sometimes needed under a sink), add the width of the two doors, plus ?". The height will be the height of the drawer front itself.
