Q: Do you send samples?
A: We send sample doors measuring 11"x15" at a cost of $20. This fee will be refunded to you if you place an order with us. To order, email us at sales@cabinetdoordepot.com. Or call 1-877-399-5677. You will need to provide the following:

  • Phone number
  • Sample type

We will call you for your credit card information. Samples can take up to two weeks to arrive, depending on inventory.

Q: What is the quality of the wood used for Cabinet Door Depot's cabinet doors?
A: The wood is a select grade:

  • The Oak is a Northern Appalachian Red Oak with a tight grain, selected for color uniformity.
  • The Maple is a White Hard Maple, selected for color uniformity and whiteness.
  • The Cherry is a select grade with a minimum 95% of heartwood (redness) on the front. We do our best to be consistent with the degree of heartwood in the Cherry and buy from the same mill or at least the same area. Please note that the back of the doors are not heavy heartwood, but will be 25 to 60% heartwood.
  • The paint-grade Maple is unselected Hard Maple. This wood is not uniform in color and is ideal for painting or staining with a very dark stain.
  • The panel doors in Maple, Oak, and Cherry have veneers that are A1 (i.e. good on both sides). The panels are 1/4" thick.

Q: What are the wood doors sanded to?
A: Wood door finishes are sanded to a 180 grit. The doors are not lacquered or stained.

Q: Are the wood doors unfinished. Do you apply a clear lacquer?
A: The wood doors are unfinished. We can apply a clear lacquer for an additional US$9.00 per square foot. This additional feature can be ordered online. We cannot apply a stain.

Q: Do you drill for concealed hinges?
A: The section labeled "Drill" on the order form refers to the location of drilling for hidden hinges. It does not refer to drilling for knobs.

Q: How is the drill location determined, and what is the cost?
A: The drill location is determined by facing the door. Your left and right corresponds to the left and right location for drilling, respectively. The cost for drilling is US$2.50 per door.

Q: What size are the drilled holes in the cabinet doors?
A: Holes are a standard size: 1 3/8" or 35mm in diameter. This is the standard industry size and works for any concealed hinge. We do not drill holes for knobs or handles or any opening and closing mechanism.

Q: What is the position of the drill holes on the doors?
A: The holes are drilled with a 3 5/8" top and bottom to center.

Note: The drill hole is 1/8" or 1/4" from the edge of the door. We can do custom drilling. Send us an email at sales@cabinetdoordepot.com, specifying your custom request.

Q: How long does delivery time take?
A: Delivery time is an average 4 1/2 weeks from the time of ordering to your receipt of the doors for both. Add one week to the delivery time if you have requested a clear lacquer. We try to accommodate rush orders.

Q: How much are shipping charges and taxes?
A: For door orders over $500, shipping is free in mainland North America, excluding Alaska. For door orders under $500, a shipping charge of $20 applies. No taxes or duty apply to US orders: the price you see is the price you pay. For Canadian orders, GST and PST is added to your order amount. Customers outside of mainland North America, including Alaska, Hawaii, and the UK, will receive a quote for shipping costs upon request.

Q: How do I measure for cabinet doors? Do I measure the actual door or the frame opening?
A: Measure the actual size of the door you require, inclusive of the amount required for the overlay. We do not add or subtract from any of the measurements.

Q: How do I measure for an inset cabinet door?
A: For an inset door, subtract 1/8" all the way around the opening of the frame.

Q: How do I determine whether I have framed or frameless cabinets?
A: See if there is a gap between the cabinet doors when they are closed. If the gap is at least 1/2" wide, your cabinets are probably framed. If the gap is 1/8" to 1/4" wide and there is no face frame, your cabinets are probably frameless.

Another indication that your cabinets are framed is if you can see the hinges when the doors are closed. If in doubt, email us some pictures so that we can help.

Q: How do I measure for framed cabinet doors?
A: Please choose from the appropriate instructions that follow.

FRAMED CABINETS WITH HIDDEN HINGES:

The overlay on framed cabinets with our hidden hinges are a maximum of 5/8" and a minimum of 3/8".

  • For a one-door cabinet: add 1 to 1 1/4" to the width of the frame opening. This gives an overlay of 1/2" to 5/8" on both sides.
  • For a two-door cabinet with no stile (post) in the middle of the opening: add 1" to the width and divide by two; this gives you the width of the gap in the middle. The minimum width of the stile required for our hinges is 1 3/8" if both cabinet doors are sharing the same frame.

FRAMED CABINETS WITH EXPOSED HINGES:

  • For a one-door cabinet: add 3/4" to your opening width.
  • For a two-door cabinet, with no stile (post) in the middle of the opening: add ?" to the width and divide by two.

Q: How do I measure for frameless cabinet doors?
A: The best way to measure for frameless cabinet doors is to measure your existing doors, rounding down to the nearest 1/8" increment.

  • For a one-door cabinet: measure the outside width of the cabinet box and reduce by 1/8".
  • For a two-door cabinet: measure the outside width of cabinet and reduce by 1/4" and then divide by two.

Q: What if I am working in decimals instead of fractions?
A: The following are decimal conversions of some common fractions: 1/8=.125 1/4=.250 3/8=.375 1/2=.500 5/8=.625 3/4=.750 7/8=.875

Please round down all measurements to the nearest 1/8" increment.

Q: How is the vertical height of a cabinet door determined?
A: To determine the vertical height of a cabinet door, most people add 1" in total-i.e. a 1/2" overlay on each end. The length of this overlay is flexible, though, if there is enough clearance.

Q: What is the maximum height you will make cabinet doors? Is there any extra cost in manufacturing and shipping these taller doors?
A: The maximum height we will manufacture a cabinet door is 60", provided that the width of the door does not exceed 18". We also will put a crosspiece in all doors over 50" in height. The additional manufacturing and shipping charges for oversized doors is $15.00 per door. This extra cost will be added to your order.

Q: How do you determine the width of a drawer front located above a cabinet door?
A: For drawer fronts located above cabinet doors, be consistent with the width of the cabinet door. The standard rule is that the width of the cabinet door should align with the width of the drawer front. However, some styles may not follow the standard rule, so use your discretion or measure your existing drawer fronts.

Q: How does a new drawer front fit over an old drawer front?
A: If an old drawer front does not come off, trim it on all four sides to make it flush with the box, and then fit the new drawer front on top of it.

Q: What is the thickness of wood cabinet doors?
A: Wood cabinet doors are 13/16" thick.

Q: Are the glass cabinet doors rebated at the back?
A: Yes, all framed cabinet doors, both square and arch designs, are rebated at the back to accommodate a square 1/4"-thick piece of glass. The piece of glass will be secured by finishing nails or silicon. Glass is not included.

Q: What are my options if I want to paint the cabinet doors?
A: Paint-grade Maple is the only paintable cabinet door type.

Q: Do you offer hinges with larger overlays?
A: No, but www.cabinetparts.com offers a variety of hinges with larger overlays.

Q: How do I measure for corner or lazy susan cabinet doors?
A: Measure from the inside corner of the cabinet to the edge of the opening, and add the desired overlay. Then subtract 3/4", and this will give you the required width of the door. Do the same for the adjacent door. These two doors will meet at a right angle. At the meeting point of the doors will be a gap in which fits a piano hinge.

Q: What is your return policy?
A: You may return hardware, however cabinet doors and drawer fronts are not returnable. Prior to returning items, you must call to receive authorization and use a courier that will supply a tracking number. Kitchen Cabinet Doors charges a $25.00 restocking fee.
